- Religieuze exceptie? Over parodistisch gebruik van andermans merken is al redelijk veel gezegd en geschreven, maar over levensbeschouwelijk gebruik van andermans merken? Terwijl het Vaticaan zijn IE-rechten juist strenger gaat handhaven (eerder bericht hier), zijn er veel andere gelovigen die zich de geestelijke eigendom van anderen toeeigenen met een andersoortig geestelijk doel.

Het meest recente voorbeeld komt van een Amerikaanse Lutherse kerk die het logo van de XBOX 360 van Microsoft heeft bewerkt voor het eigen Life 360-programma: "Geef het maar toe, het leven is niet altijd fun and games. U krijgt een nieuwe kijk op hoeveel God van u houdt en de zekerheid dat God u wilt helpen om het spel van het leven te winnen!"

- What’s going on here? It’s the collision of documentary filmmaking and intellectual property law, and it’s the subject of, yes, a new comic book. Follow its heroine Akiko as she films her documentary, and navigates the twists and turns of intellectual property. -Handige prior art databank: The Design Encyclopedia is a user-built source of reference material with the sole intention of defining, describing, chronicling and documenting the world through design in all its implications and manifestations – from the visual to the tactile, from the communicative to the evocative, from the cultural to the commercial. - Frauduleus gebruik. The European Union's anti-fraud unit said Monday that its own logo was being used by con artists seeking to extort money with fake letters. The European Anti-Fraud Office, or OLAF, said the fraudsters were sending letters bearing its logo which accused the recipients of violating money-laundering regulations and demanded payments. OLAF urged anybody receiving such a letter to report it to the police. Lees hier meer.

- The hilarious remixed London Tube map that substituted anagrams of the station names has been censored off the Internet by lawyers working for Transport for London. The page now reads, "Content removed at the request of Healeys Solicitors acting on behalf of Transport for London and Transport Trading Ltd." Lees hier meer. Amsterdamse metro-anagrammen hier. - Zoekmachine, auteursrecht, linkrecht. Google Inc. on Wednesday said it expected to appeal a federal court ruling that would prevent the search engine from displaying thumbnail pictures of copyrighted images of adult magazine Perfect 10.  U.S. District Court Judge Howard Matz granted the magazine a preliminary injunction against Google, but said the order would have to be narrowly focused, so only Perfect 10 images displayed on Google results would be covered. 

Matz refused to issue an injunction that would prevent Google from displaying links to third-party Web sites displaying Perfect 10 photos without the magazine's permission. Google lawyer Michael Kwun said that while the company was disappointed over the injunction, it was pleased with the ruling on the links. Lees hier meer. Uitspraak hier.
